Visions...

...seemed to be a recurring theme on today's Hot Pebbles! on Phonic FM with tributes to visionaries Martin Luther King and William Morris and mention of David Lockwood's original vision of an alternative arts space in Exeter.

 Listen again here

Exeter's BikeShed Theatre was launched in February 2010 when David Lockwood and Fin Irwin began to transform the run-down ex-Bamboo Gardens Restaurant into the exciting and vibrant space it is now.

Director David Lockwood introduced us to the new season at the theatre. On Sunday 1st September they launch into it with Spokes Amaze with an array of spoken word artists from throughout the UK. Productions include Flood, a dramatic look at real-life narratives from Exeter's flooding and a full three week residency of Mugs Arrow, a surreal black comedy. Full details of the programme are here.

Billy Bottle and the Multiple

Billy Bottle and The Multiple did a fantastic set for us today.

 Listen again here

Pictures from Exeter Respect 2013 by Martin Hodge

Billy Bottle (keyboard and vocals), Viv Goodwin (flute), Martine Waltier (violin and vocals) and Roz Harding (alto-sax) expertly and exuberantly performed two songs for us, the second of which is an epic which will form the basis of their forthcoming album Unrecorded Beam in which Billy sets to music poetry by the inspirational American poet Henry David Thoreau.

The numbers played were
The Great They and
O Nature.

I for one found the performance by the band very powerful and we have had highly complimentary feedback from listeners too.
Find out more about the music of the fabulous Billy Bottle and The Multiple on their website.
